Can’t a Girl Get Some Support? August 10, 2007

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Easier said than done at times and while my recent plight certainly doesn’t fall in the realm of things to lose sleep over, it’s still been a frustrating week. While preparing for my move to London, I soon realized that I need a wardrobe makeover so I don’t freeze in skirts and flip flops. I also realized that the ladies needed some new support so I set off on a bra hunt that was going to take a lot more trying than succeeding.
Growing up in Vancouver, Canada I’d have to say that the shopping leaves more than just a little to be desired. Many of my friends would make the cross-border trek to Victoria’s Secret for their lingerie needs so I just assumed that living in the multi-cultural and fashion savvy city of San Francisco, I wouldn’t have a problem find a bra for the ladies. I was wrong. Very, very wrong. To make matters worse, I had to admit that my unique physical qualities extended beyond my red hair and daddy long legs to the ladies of Long Beach.
I say Long Beach because the newly dubbed 32DD’s make me wonder where all those skinny women with fake breasts do their bra shopping. After spending hours and hours scouring Victoria’s Secret (special sizes need not apply), Macys, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstroms, I had almost decided that Yentil had it right when she wrapped her breasts in cloth to look like a boy, when finally I found a bra. One brassiere, over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder, feminine support or whatever else you want to call it later, my search had ended. I think next time I want some support I’ll just call a friend.
Tell me about it. Bra shopping is WORSE than swimsuit shopping! And if you thought buying a bikini might be an easier way to make sure it fits your top and bottom, no such luck. But how come a good bra is so hard to find? And yes to the Yentl comment! Actually, we had a friend in college who hurt her back and had this elasticated back support, and several of us thought we’d try it Yentl style. Boyish figures ensued, but it wasn’t comfortable in the least!
Cute post – enjoyed it a lot. Made me feel less alone in the ridiculously large breasted catagory. Welcome to our not so exclusive club…
